According to Webster’s Student Dictionary an ambassador is:
- An official representative sent by one sovereign or government to another.
- A minister of the highest rank in the diplomatic service, appointed to reside at the seat of government of a foreign country and to represent there the interest of his own government. We are going to need much help and encouragement for this assignment.
Each of us, as His maturing sons and daughters, are ambassadors in faith. We are to act accordingly, serving those around us with the same love, grace, and mercy. Faith like Jesus’ is seeing, speaking, and doing the will of the Father. Much of what Jesus said during his ministry we have already begun to realize in our thoughts, our words, and our actions.
“Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?” (Luke 2:49, NKJV)
“I speak to the world those things which I heard from Him.” (John 8:26b, NKJV)
“As My Father taught Me, I speak these things.” (John 8:28b, NKJV)
“For I always do those things that please Him.” (John 8:29b, NKJV)
What Is the Assignment?
Again Jesus is speaking, And He said to them,
“Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature…and these signs shall follow those who believe. In My name they will cast out demons, they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents, and if they drink anything deadly it will by no means hurt them, they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover… and they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them, confirming the Word through the accompanying signs, Amen.” (Mark 16:15, 17-18, 20 NKJV)
Our world is waiting for us. We are to go…starting with our own homes, neighborhoods, schools, city, state, country and world. Our assignment is to take the message of Christ to everyone, making them disciples.
Help and Encouragement – John chapter 14–17
In these chapters, Jesus comforts his disciples and followers. We also need this comfort and encouragement from the Lord. He gives the promise of the Holy Spirit. If you are not filled with the Holy Spirit, this needs to become your mission before you fulfill your role as an Ambassador for Christ! Jesus relates that the Holy Spirit still has many things to reveal and share with us which is so important! He tells about being connected to Him as a vine is to the branch. This is vital so we can receive clear direction about where He wants us to go and what we are to do when we get there. Jesus warns His followers that because they belong to Him, many in the world will often hate them just like they did and still do hate Jesus, and even forbid the use of His name (see Acts 4:13-17). However, we cannot let this take us by surprise or stop us from our mission as His ambassadors.
How Do We “Do Ministry”?
Acts 10:38 gives us the ‘heart’ of it all in very simple terms:
“how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.” (Acts 10:38)
Jesus is still God. Father God’s anointing is still on Jesus and the Word. Therefore, that same anointing is in you, and will flow out from you at the prompting and direction of the Holy Spirit. Just go about doing good and being a vessel for the Holy Spirit to heal all who are sick, discouraged, or oppressed by the devil—because God is with you too! You are anointed because the anointing is on the Word and we’ve already learned that Jesus is the Word, and both He and the Holy Spirit live in and through you right now!
