How Will Reading The Word Make A Difference?
As you spend time reading God’s Word, you will begin to be ‘knit together’ with your Father God, the LORD Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. Memorizing, having faith, and obeying the Word; by fellow-shipping with them in praise, worship, thanksgiving, and prayer you will become and live more like Jesus. Read John 15:1, 4-10 (‘joined’ in some translations is stated as being ‘knit together’.)
What Are The Signs?
Q: What steps or ‘signs’ in my life will let me KNOW that I’m really a child of God and that I am becoming more like Christ?
A: Read 1 John Chapters 1 and 2. The same John that wrote the gospel of John also wrote first, second and third John. John was a disciple and a close friend of Jesus; he knew Jesus very well for those three and a half years of Jesus’ ministry and Jesus personally taught him many things. He also wrote the book of Revelation. The first and second chapters in first John will give you some guidelines.
Jesus, the Scriptures, God, and the Word are ‘one’ according to what we learn in John 1: 1-4, 14. Therefore, the more of God’s Word that controls our thoughts and lifestyle, the more we ‘become’ like Jesus—one with Him—in following His plan for our life.
How Can I Defeat Satan?
First of all, Satan has already been defeated by Jesus! But to stand against Satan’s attacks, simply look at the life of Jesus and do what He did. Satan will never stop trying to gain access to both your mind and your life, but you can stop him from taking control. The Word of God (with the help of the Holy Spirit) is the ONLY way to stand against Satan. We cannot do it with our own power or our own words. Read Ephesians 5:1, 2; Jesus is God; imitate Him. Therefore, we must know God’s Word so we can use our authority as a child of God. We must speak the Word with faith, assurance and boldness. This will drive Satan out of your life; and you will be able to help other people gain the victory that you walk in. “Away with you, Satan! For it is written …” (Matthew 4:10, NKJV). “For the ruler of this world is coming, and he has nothing in me” (John 14:30, NKJV).
Read Matthew 4:1-11 to learn how Jesus used the Word of God to defeated Satan.
Living In Victory
The ONLY way we can experience true victory as a mature child of God and hear “well done” when we meet Him face to face, is to be an imitator and Ambassador of Christ. Our goal should be to remain in constant unity with Him—allowing Jesus to live His life through you, and imitating His earthly ministry:
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me. He has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor. He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.“ (Luke 4:18, 19 NKJV)
We must discipline ourselves to pray more and wait on the Lord until we hear or see what He wants done and when He wants it done. We know He will show us. The world tells us to hurry and do something! But God’s timing is always perfect, so we are learning to be mature, patient, and to endure all things in life that we face in this temporary world.
Life Is A Test
We know we are going to be tested. Often, the testing is long and comes with things our flesh and soul do not enjoy (See James 1:2–8). As we stand, maturity and patience are essential. We endure hardship like good soldiers, with joy; for we know that God will not allow more of his power to manifest in and through our life beyond what He knows He can trust us with. He knows this by our ability to follow His Word, His leading, and His timing. When God allows a test to come into our lives, and we remain steadfast, He has a promotion for us upon our successful completion of the test.
“I can of myself do nothing…I do not seek my own will but the will of the Father who sent me.” (John 5:30, NKJV)
